On the road from Palm Springs to Joshua Tree we spotted the coolest Scout (that had seen better days, but still!) on the roadside and just had to stop to check it out.

Growing up, I dreamt about having a Scout. When my Dad was growing up he was a mechanic, and as an adult he still enjoyed fixing up cars in his garage in his spare time. When I was a teen I wanted to restore a Scout with my Dad, but he, being the practical man that he is, decided a Scout for a teen wasn't the best fit, and that an old one wouldn't be the safest on the roads because older cars can break down more easily etc. So, I got a Rav 4 - And loved it! We talked about putting in a sunroof together and making it "cooler", but in the end we just amped up the wheels and had fun heading out to buy the new tires & shiny hubcaps.

Nevertheless, whenever I see a Scout I get super excited- It is the perfect desert truck, great for slow driving with the roof off getting dusty on new adventures.

More from Joshua Tree & Route 66 coming soon,
